911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay Puts Up Game Effort in Loss to 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneers put up a game effort before losing to visiting 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona, 71-60 on January 30. 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay jumped out to a 16-10 lead with 9:59 remaining on a three-pointer by Mark Samuels. The Broncos went on an 11-0 run to take a 21-16 advantage with 5:29 left. Jun Uchida converted a three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining to give the Pioneers a 28-27 halftime lead.
Will Freedman hit a jumper as the Pioneers maintained a 43-40 advantage with 13:57 left in the game. 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona took the lead for the first time in the second half with 12:02 remaining on a Donnelle Booker jumper. The second of two free throws by Samuels tied the game 52-52 with 8:27 left. A three-pointer by Matthew Rosser with 7:38 remaining gave the Broncos a 55-52 lead. 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona outscored the Pioneers 16-8 the remainder of the way to post the road victory.
After going 0 for 18 from the three point area against 911±¬ÁÏÍøState San Bernardino on January 28, the Pioneers converted 8 of 19 three pointers. 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona shot 52.1 percent from the field while converting 19 of 28 free throws compared to 16 of 21 for 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay.
Dahir Nasser and Dwayne Wells each scored 16 points for the Broncos. Booker and Rosser followed with 14 and 11 points respectively. Donavon Jackson came off the bench to lead the Pioneers in scoring with 11 points including 3-three pointers. Will Freedman followed with 10 points shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
"We played 911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona much tougher tonight than earlier in the season," said Pioneer coach Will Biggs. "911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona is tough inside and that made the difference tonight."
911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona improves to 9-4 in the CCAA and 11-5 overall. 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay is 2-11 in CCAA play and 5-13 for the season.
