Pioneers take sixth in fall finale

WAIKALOA, Hawai'i - The Pioneer men's golf team concluded the fall season with a sixth-place tie at the Dennis Rose Invitational on Nov. 1-2. The tournament, held at the Waikaloa King Course in Waikaloa, Hawai'i, consisted of a field of 12 NCAA Division II institutions.
911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay and Valdosta State finished in a sixth-place tie with a three-round score of 34-over-par 898. 911±¬ÁÏÍøState Monterey Bay won the invitational with a four-over-par 868.
Jeff Cornez led the Pioneers and tied with three other golfers in 14th place. Cornez fired a four-over 220, including a team-low, three-under 69 in the second round.
A.J. Warren finished in 25th and five strokes off Cornez' pace with a nine-over 225. Nick Allen and Scott Gregory shot 14-over for the tournament to tie with two other golfers in 36th.
Andres Quintero finished 16 over and tied with one other golfer in 40th place, but improved his first-round score by eight strokes, carding a two-over 74 in the second round.
The Pioneers will open the spring slate on Feb. 27, when they travel to Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino for the 911±¬ÁÏÍøState San Bernardino Invitational.
