Pioneer baseball lands two on All-CCAA Team

Nick McManus earned his second straight All-CCAA selection, collecting second team honors after leading the Pioneers in 2011.

The Pioneer baseball team landed two players on the 2011 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Teams announced on May 11.

Nick McManus earned second team honors, while Brandyn Bell received honorable mention recognition.

A senior third baseman, McManus was the Pioneers' top hitter for the second straight season with a .333 batting average. McManus also led the Pioneers in slugging percentage (.492, 9th CCAA), on base percentage (.395), total bases (90-7th CCAA) hits (61-7th-t CCAA), RBIs (25), doubles (20), home runs (3), and multi-hit games (17). He also had a team-best 12 game hitting streak. Last year, McManus received honorable mention recognition.

A junior pitcher, Bell posted a 6-2 record with a 3.33 ERA. The six victories was a staff-high and tied for eighth in the CCAA. Bell also topped the staff with 44 strikeouts and tied for seventh in the CCAA with 22 hitters caught looking.

911±¬ÁÏÍøPoly Pomona senior outfielder Travis Taijeron was named Most Valuable Player while UC San Diego's Tim Shibuya and 911±¬ÁÏÍøState LA's Gabriel Asakura shared Co-Pitcher of the Year honors. For the third straight season, the Tritons' Dan O'Brien was named the conference's Coach of the Year.
