edTPA Policies, Scoring, and Remediation
Senate Bill 1209 (effective January 1, 2007), requires all teaching candidates to pass a Teacher Performance Assessment prior to being recommended for a California Teaching Credential. 911±¬ÁÏÍø, East Bay administers the edTPA to meet this mandate. The edTPA is submitted through the Pearson ePortfolio system and candidates select CSU East Bay for every submission.
All CSUEB teacher candidates (student teachers and interns) submit the edTPA during their final semester in the credential program. This performance assessment entails planning a learning segment of 3-5 lessons, teaching the planned learning segment, assessing student learning, and reflecting on teaching practice throughout the edTPA process. .
The CSUEB Teacher Education Department provides a great deal of support to prepare candidates for success on edTPA. During the Student Teaching Seminar, candidates are given explicit guidance for completing the edTPA. Refer to for additional information on edTPA scores and scoring. edTPA Policies

The recommended submission for edTPA is in March or April depending upon the academic year. If a candidate submits the edTPA at a later date, the candidate takes all responsibility for any delay in the issuance of their credential.

Candidates must obtain video consent from guardians prior to recording anyone in the classroom under age 18. Students and other adults age 18 and older must also give consent to be recorded. Candidates use the provided by CSUEB, and they submit the Principal Authorization Form to verify having met this consent requirement in TED 578.

All edTPA submissions are governed by the CSUEB academic honesty policies and policies outlined in the edTPA Candidate Handbooks. All edTPA work must be original independent work (other than discussion led by your course instructors).

A candidate cannot be recommended for the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Preliminary Credential without passing the edTPA.
Appeals, Remediation, and Resubmission
Candidates who do not earn a have the opportunity to appeal or resubmit one or more individual edTPA tasks. . The cost payable to Pearson is $100 to resubmit one section, $200 to submit two sections, and $300 to resubmit the entire portfolio. Candidates must find their own classroom to teach a new learning segment, film new video(s), administer and analyze a new assessment, and then submit the new portfolio.
Candidates who do not pass the EdTPA must resubmit. A 45-minute advising session is available in order to support candidate success in the resubmission. Candidates must contact the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Program Coordinator to schedule an advising session.
edTPA Secondary Passing Standard
The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved the use of a secondary passing standard for candidates whose edTPA score was within a few points of the adopted edTPA passing standard. Any candidate who believes their edTPA falls within the secondary passing standard should contact the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Program Coordinator.
