911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay History Department faculty are at the forefront of new fields, such as the history of sustainability, the history of globalization, digital history, applied history, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Faculty hold advanced degrees in their specialties from leading research universities across the United States and the United Kingdom. Alumni of our History BA and MA programs pursue diverse careers, including in business, digital media, government, and law. Our graduates go on to prestigious MA and Ph.D. programs, including, recently, at the University of California, Stanford University, Harvard University, the University of Washington, the University of Minnesota, and Vanderbilt University. They study history, law, languages, library and information science, education, communication, and comparative literature. Importantly, History major graduates teach in K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities across the state of California. Several of our graduates have advanced to significant positions as faculty at Northwestern University, Harvard University, the University of Illinois, and Saint Mary’s College of California.
History majors also win many awards while at 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay, including, recently, the Scholar Athlete of the Year and, for three consecutive years, the Harrington Outstanding University Thesis Award for graduates of our MA program. History majors earn significant internships and fellowships, serve as Distinguished Pioneer Scholars, and very often graduate with honors.
