PUBLIC LIABILITY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

Insurance Requirements for Campus Facility Use

If you are unable to provide your own insurance coverage, renters have the option to purchase insurance through the University. For more information, please contact the Risk Management Office at (510) 885-2250 or via email at riskmanagement@csueastbay.edu.

Insurance Requirements

As an agency of the State of California, there are specific insurance requirements that must be met to use campus facilities. The following are the minimum required amounts of insurance coverage. These limits do not restrict the amounts recoverable by the 911±¬ÁÏÍø (CSU), which is entitled to any valid and collectible insurance or other sources of recovery. The insurance provided by the Contractor under this agreement must meet or exceed the following coverage requirements:

Certificate of Insurance Requirements

The Client or Lessee must furnish the University with a "Certificate of Insurance" prior to the commencement of the contract agreement. The certificate must include:

  1. Public Liability Insurance:
    • $2,000,000 per occurrence / $4,000,000 aggregate
  2. Worker’s Compensation and Employer’s Liability Insurance (if applicable):
    • Required only if employees of the sponsoring organization or group are working the event on campus.
  3. Automobile Liability Insurance:
    • For private individuals: $100,000 per person, $300,000 per occurrence, and $100,000 property damage.
    • For commercial entities: Business automobile liability with a combined single limit of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence.

The sponsoring organization must provide proof of insurance coverage no later than 10 working days prior to the start of the event. Failure to meet this deadline will result in event cancellation.

Additional Coverage Information

Higher insurance limits may be required based on the nature of the event or the number of attendees. Coverage must be obtained through a company with an A.M. Best rating of A:VII or higher. A certificate of insurance must specify the date and details of the event for which it is issued.

The following endorsements are required for the certificate of insurance to be valid:

  • Primary and Non-Contributory Coverage: Insurance coverage must be primary and non-contributory.
  • Additional Insureds: The certificate must endorse the State of California, the Trustees of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the University, and their agents, officers, and employees as additional insureds. This endorsement must appear as a separate change to the insurance policy; blanket endorsements are not acceptable.

Sexual Abuse or Molestation (SAM) Liability

If the event involves contact with minors and the Commercial General Liability policy does not include affirmative coverage for sexual abuse or molestation, the Contractor must obtain a separate policy with a limit of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence.

Submission Requirements

A properly executed certificate of insurance and all necessary endorsements must be submitted no later than 10 working days before the event. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the cancellation of your reservation. An electronic copy of the insurance documents is acceptable for submission.
