CSU to require immunization against COVID-19

Dear campus community,

As I mentioned in my April 14 email and comments I've made in many venues over the past couple of weeks, the CSU system office has been exploring the possibility of requiring vaccines or testing for employees and students who return to CSU campuses in Fall 2021, with a limited range of exceptions.

Today, the 911±¬ÁÏÍø, along with the University of California,  to require faculty, staff and students who access campus facilities this fall to be immunized against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The requirement will be conditional upon full approval of one or more vaccines by the FDA.

Vaccines are now available to Californians 16 years and older. While 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay does not currently have access to vaccines nor appointments, individuals seeking a vaccine should use these resources:

  • Register at  to find locations with available appointments
  • Check directly with your healthcare provider
  • County public health pages in  and Contra Costa County list vaccination sites with appointments
  • The crowd-sourced site  lists available vaccine sites by ZIP code

The CSU will continue to develop more detailed implementation policies in the coming weeks. I will keep you informed about this process as we learn more.

Sincerely yours,
Cathy Sandeen
