CSU to Require Vaccination Boosters

Dear 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay community,

I know that many of you are concerned about the rise in COVID-19 cases, especially the more contagious Omicron variant. I wanted to reassure you that the university is monitoring the evolving public health concerns closely, and will continue to work with regional and state public health offices to make decisions to keep us safe.

I'm announcing today that 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay, along with the entire CSU System, will implement a . More details will be available when we return to campus in early January, but I wanted to share with you some early information:

  • 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay will require students, MPP and Confidential employees who are eligible to receive a vaccination booster to do so by February 28, 2022.
  • Those who are not eligible to receive boosters by February 28 will have six months after receiving their final initial vaccination dose to receive a booster.
  • Represented employees will not be subject to the booster requirement until the CSU concludes its meet-and-confer process with labor unions.
  • The university is working with local partners to offer a booster clinic on the Hayward Campus at the start of the New Year.

The Today Toward Together website has information on COVID-19 vaccine locations so you can find a time and location convenient for you. As we head out on winter break, I encourage anyone who is eligible and has not yet received a booster, to do so.

Looking Ahead to Spring Semester

Many of you may have heard that the UC System will allow a shift to online for the first two weeks of their winter term, which begins January 3 right after the New Year’s holiday. As 911±¬ÁÏÍøState East Bay’s start of the semester begins two weeks later on January 18, we still expect to begin the term as planned. However, we will continue to watch regional infection rates and monitor public health data to help us make informed decisions. We will make a determination on our Spring 2022 start delivery method in early January.

Our university community has done a commendable job with our vaccination rates, mask wearing, and healthy behaviors. Thank you, everyone, for looking out for the health and safety of others and yourself.

I wish each of you a joyous, safe and healthy holiday season.

With warm regards,
Cathy Sandeen
