The Department of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism prepares students to join and advance in the dynamic, growing, and exciting hospitality and tourism industries. It provides students with the knowledge they need in various industry sectors, such as restaurant, food service, hotel, resort, special event, meeting planning, and many others.

Online programs are for anyone who has already completed their lower-division general education breadth requirements. Only upper-division, major requirements will be taken completely online.

REC 200 - Serving Diverse Populations in Hospitality, Recreation, Rec Therapy and Tourism

Covers concepts of social equity, social justice, ability, ethnic and cultural diversity. Explores the relationship between customers and HRT service providers. Focuses on inclusion and conflict management.

HOS 210 - Meetings, Conventions, & Special Events

Learn about managing and servicing meetings, conventions and special events. Topics include development of marketing plans, organizing the event, developing contracts, staffing, managing food and beverage, and billing.

HOS 235 - Introduction to Community Engagement

Students apply concepts and knowledge of Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism programming to enhance the quality of life in local communities through service.

HOS 297 - Food & Culture

Exploration of the impact of foods and cultures on the world today. An in-depth look at the social, political, historical, economic, and environmental systems that have shaped food traditions, practices, and patterns in different countries, religions, and cultures.

HOS 300 - Marketing in Hospitality, Recreation, Recreation Therapy, and Tourism

Covers marketing principles in hospitality, recreation, recreation therapy and tourism management. Emphasizes the interaction of marketing activities and the development of marketing strategies, including the use of social media.

HOS 320 - Event Leadership

Students gain the leadership skills and abilities required to be a successful event professional. Addresses responsibilities in the quality of events, ethics, risk assessment, risk analysis and environmental issues.
